Terms of Service

These terms cover the Attempt website and the coach, athlete and meet workspaces behind it. Creating an account means accepting them.

Attempt is in public beta; this document is a working draft and will be reviewed by counsel before general availability.

1. Who may use Attempt

You must be 18 or older to create an account. Attempt is not built for children and is not offered to them. Sign-up asks you to confirm your age, and we record the date and the version of these terms you accepted (this document is version 2026-09-17).

Minors do compete in this sport. A parent, guardian or coach may hold an account and enter a minor into a competition through it, but the account holder is the adult, and the adult is responsible for what is published about the minor. If you believe an account belongs to someone under 18, tell us at team@attemptpl.com.

2. Your account

  • One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your sign-in.
  • Give real information. A coach profile, a gym listing or a meet entry that misstates who is behind it can be removed.
  • Entering a gym code affirms that you act for that gym. The code sets up one account for that listing, once, and it may be revoked before it is used.
  • If you list a meet, you are responsible for the accuracy of that listing and for the registration site it links to. Attempt does not run the meet, take its entries or handle its money, and a listing that misstates the meet or sends lifters somewhere they did not expect can be taken off the calendar.
  • Account email is transactional only: a password reset link when you ask for one, and a verification code when you create an account with an email and password. There is no marketing email, and you cannot opt out of the two above without closing the account. If you turn it on, a weekly summary of your own account’s activity, off by default, with an unsubscribe link in every one.
  • If a coach adds you to their roster by email, one invitation email with their message and a link to accept; nothing more unless they invite you again.
  • Tell us at support@attemptpl.com if you think someone else has your account.
  • You can ask us to delete your account at any time. Write to support@attemptpl.com; deletion tooling is still being built during the beta, so it is done by hand today.

3. Acceptable use

Use Attempt for the sport. Do not:

  • Impersonate another lifter, coach, gym, meet director or federation, or publish a profile that misstates who is behind it.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or resell data from Attempt, or use automated means to create accounts, reviews, applications or reports.
  • Post a review, application or report you know to be false, or trade anything of value for a review.
  • Break, probe or overload the service, or try to reach data that is not yours, including another lifter’s private training.
  • Use Attempt to harass, threaten or endanger anyone, on the platform or off it.
  • Use Attempt where the law where you are says you may not.

4. Your content

What you write and upload stays yours. Programs, training logs, videos, photos, reviews, gym descriptions and meet information are your content, and Attempt claims no ownership of any of it.

To show it to the people you meant to show it to, we need permission to host it. By uploading, you grant Attempt a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, reformat, compress, thumbnail and display your content, only as needed to operate the service and only to the audience you have published it to. The licence ends for new uses when you delete the content or your account; backups age out on their ordinary schedule.

A coach may show an athlete as a highlight on their profile: the training figures there are the coach’s own entry and their own claim, while the rating, the words and the lift videos beside them are the athlete’s, submitted from the athlete’s own account with the consent box ticked, and removable by that athlete at any time.

Uploader rights affirmation

When you upload anything, you are affirming that you own it or have permission to post it, and that every identifiable person in it has agreed to appear. Meet footage often contains other lifters, spotters and referees. If you cannot say that, do not upload it.

Promotion of Attempt

Some of what you publish here is public by design: a coach listing and the photos on it, a gym listing and its gallery, a public athlete profile and its cards, a highlight an athlete has consented to, a public meet listing. By publishing any of these, you also grant Attempt a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce and display them, with your name or the listing’s name as it appears here, in Attempt’s own promotion: on this site, on Attempt’s social accounts, and in advertising for Attempt. That is the only endorsement it may imply, and we will not present you as endorsing anything else, nor edit a photo beyond cropping, resizing and adding Attempt’s own frame.

This never reaches anything private. Training logs, programs, check-ins, messages, review videos and a photo you place on a card for download are not covered, and the last of those is never stored at all. You can withdraw the promotional licence at any time, without leaving Attempt, by writing to support@attemptpl.com; it ends for new uses when you do so or when you delete the content or your account, though a print or a post already made stays as it is. If you are a minor, or your federation or employer restricts how your likeness may be used, do not publish content this licence would cover.

5. Content that is never allowed

  • Intimate images of anyone shared without their consent, and any sexual content involving a minor. Both are removed on sight and reported to the relevant authorities.
  • Content that sexualises a minor in any way, including training or competition footage framed that way.
  • Threats, incitement to violence, or targeted harassment of a person.
  • Content that identifies a private individual in order to expose or endanger them.
  • Material that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or likeness rights.
  • Malware, phishing, or anything designed to compromise a reader’s device or account.

Report any of it through the report form, or write to team@attemptpl.com if it is urgent.

6. Intellectual property complaints

If something on Attempt infringes your copyright or other intellectual property, the process and the address are on the copyright and IP page. Accounts that infringe repeatedly are terminated.

The Attempt name, wordmark, interface and the text on these pages are ours. Competition data is not: see section 8.

7. Suspension and removal

We may remove content, suspend an account, or close it, if these terms are broken, if the law requires it, or if leaving something up would put someone at risk. Where we reasonably can, we say why and give you a way to answer; where the risk is immediate we act first. You may close your own account at any time.

8. Competition data and third parties

Competition results shown on lifter profiles, meet pages and rankings come from OpenPowerlifting, used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence and attributed wherever it appears. Attempt does not warrant that it is complete or correct; the meet record and the federation are the authority. Corrections at the source are the fastest fix, and you can tell us at meets@attemptpl.com.

Attempt is not affiliated with or endorsed by any powerlifting federation or OpenPowerlifting.

Federation names, meet names and records are used descriptively to say what a result is. No federation has approved, sanctioned or reviewed anything on Attempt.

9. Paid plans, billing and cancellation

Athlete accounts are free. A coach marketplace profile, the applications it receives and the reviews on it are free. Two things are paid, both coach plans: Coach at $79 a month and Team at $199 a month, as published on the pricing page. Starting one gives you the coach workspace: roster, programming, import, video review, check-ins, messages and analytics.

  • Payments are taken by Stripe, our payment processor. Card details are entered on Stripe’s hosted checkout and never reach Attempt. You also accept Stripe’s own terms when you pay.
  • Plans are monthly and renew automatically at the published price, plus any tax required, until you cancel. A price change applies only to renewals after we have told you.
  • You can cancel at any time yourself, from Billing in your coach settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for; access continues until then and no further charge is taken.
  • Nothing is pro-rated, and there are no partial-month refunds by default. Duplicate charges, charges after cancellation, wrong amounts and charges caused by our mistakes are refunded. The billing and refunds policy is part of these terms.
  • A cancelled account is not deleted. It returns to the free Listed on Attempt tier, keeping the profile, applications and reviews, and your athletes keep their free accounts and their history.
  • We may suspend a paid plan for non-payment after Stripe’s retries fail, and under section 7 for the reasons set out there. A plan we terminate for our own convenience is refunded for the unused part of the period.
  • Money between a coach and their athlete is between them. Attempt does not process it, take a cut, or become a party to it. Meet entry fees recorded in MeetOS are a director’s own bookkeeping; Attempt never holds that money.

The full detail, including what we refund without argument, is in the billing and refunds policy.

10. Availability

Attempt is in public beta and is provided as it is, without any warranty. Features change, break and disappear. There is no uptime commitment, no support commitment, and no promise that data you put in will still be there in the same shape tomorrow. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, especially during a competition.

11. No medical or coaching guarantees

Attempt is a record-keeping and scheduling tool, not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment, a rehabilitation plan or clearance to train. Powerlifting carries a real risk of injury. Talk to a qualified clinician about pain, injury, nutrition and whether you should be lifting at all.

Coaches on Attempt are independent. A coach’s programming, claims, pricing, conduct and results are the coach’s own, not Attempt. Attempt does not guarantee any outcome from coaching, training, a program, a peaking plan or an attempt selection, and does not supervise any coaching relationship. Reviews and the verified athlete list describe a relationship that exists on Attempt; they are not an endorsement of anyone’s competence.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Attempt is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost data, lost earnings or lost competition opportunity, or for anything arising from your use of the service, from another user content, or from a coaching relationship formed here.

For counsel: This clause is a placeholder. The liability cap, the governing law and venue, the arbitration or class-action position, the consumer-law carve-outs, and the indemnity that would normally sit beside it have not been drafted or reviewed. Nothing in this section is intended to limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

13. Demonstration data

Some pages show seeded example profiles, gyms, meets and reviews so that an empty product can be understood. They are labelled "Demo data" on the page and are excluded from public browsing, search and rankings. They are fictional. Do not treat a demo profile as a real coaching business, a real gym or a real result.

14. Changes to these terms

We will update this document as Attempt changes, and the date at the top is the version in force. Material changes will be shown in the product before they take effect, and continuing to use Attempt after that means accepting the new version. Your recorded acceptance stays attached to the version you accepted.

15. Contact
